8:22 p.m. Thursday — Richard A. Safranek III, 30, of Clay Township, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at a home on the 200 block of South Cliff Street.The victim told police that Safranek punched her in the face, according to court documents. She suffered redness and numbness to the face, police said.The defendant was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and was released on $2,500 unsecured bail.Aug. 25 — James R. Dantonio, 79, of Butler Township, was charged with propositioning a woman for sex in July on West New Castle Street. The incident happened about 6 p.m. July 17. Dantonio is charged with promoting prostitution.Aug. 24 — Karen L. Wulfert, 39, of Lyndora, was charged with illegally having prescription medication and other drug contraband in connection with a police call earlier last month on Hickory Street. Police said they were called about 7:20 a.m. Aug. 7 for a woman in a car possibly doing drugs.An officer found Wulfert in the car with a tourniquet on her left arm, according to court documents, and she admitted that she was shooting up heroin before police arrived. She was searched and allegedly found with an unlabeled pill bottle with 11 Suboxone strip, and an empty stamp bag of an unspecified suspected drug.Police said they also found two syringes and a plastic spoon with white residue in the vehicle.Wulfert is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Aug. 24 — Police charged Khalif E. Rippy, 20, of Butler, with having marijuana stemming from a traffic stop earlier that month on West Wayne Street near Upper Shore Street. He was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped shortly after 12:50 a.m. Aug. 14 for a traffic violation.A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a marijuana blunt and loose marijuana on the front passenger side floor where Rippy was seated, according to court documents. He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Sept. 1 — Butler Township officers responded to the Butler Memorial Hospital for a disturbance in the emergency room. Police said they identified John Toy, 40, of Kittanning, as being visibly intoxicated outside the hospital. Police arrested Toy for public drunkenness.Aug. 31 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Jeremy N. Agostino, 41, of Slippery Rock, stemming from a suspected felony shoplifting incident earlier in the month at the Target store at Butler Commons. He is accused of removing two bar code labels from merchandise and placing them on a pair of backpacks.Instead of the full price of $94.99 for the merchandise, he paid $1.98, according to a police report. Police said he also stole a pack of batteries and a cell phone charger worth a combined $54.48.The items, police said, along with a crack pipe were later recovered from Agostino's vehicle. The defendant, police noted, also allegedly gave false information about his identity.Court records showed he has at least three convictions for retail theft. Normally a summary or misdemeanor offense, retail theft in Pennsylvania is upgraded to a third-degree felony regardless of the stolen property's value when a defendant has had at least two prior arrests for the same crime.Agostino is charged with two felony counts of retail theft. Additionally, he is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.Aug. 20 — Police charged Mitchell McKnight, 25, and Maggie McKnight, 28, both of Butler, in connection with a shoplifting incident Aug. 5 at the Butler Commons' Walmart.The defendants, according to a police report, are accused of failing to scan merchandise valued at $1,396.03, while using a self-checkout register. Both McKnights are charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft.

Aug. 9 — Cameron S. Leonard, 25, of Wexford, was charged with drunken boating stemming from a July incident at Moraine State Park.A park ranger said he was on boat patrol about 7:15 p.m. July 20 when he spotted a sailboat with four occupants. Some of them, including to the ranger, appeared to be drinking from white Styrofoam cups, according to court documents.Authorities subsequently identified the beverages in the cups as containing alcohol. Rangers also found in the boat multiple cans of alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is prohibited at state parks in Pennsylvania.Leonard was eventually taken to the state police barracks in Butler Township for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.243 percent, documents said, which is three times the state's 0.08 percent legal limit.Rangers said he admitted drinking alcohol. He also told them that he took prescription medication earlier that day.He is charged with boating under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, negligent operation of a watercraft and violation of rules on commonwealth property.

Aug. 26 — Bryan A. Perri, 31, of Butler, was charged with fraudulently cashing a check May 18 at the PNC Bank at Moraine Pointe Plaza in Butler Township. The check, which belonged to a Summit Township business, was valued at $1,745.Perri is charged with felony counts of forgery and receiving stolen property.Aug. 25 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Marlon Williams, 31, of Philadelphia, stemming from an alleged controlled drug buy last year in Summit Township.Williams allegedly sold 10 stamp bags containing fentanyl and tramadol to a police informant Aug. 2, 2019, on Route 38, according to court documents. He is charged with felony and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.7:54 p.m. Aug. 18 — Bradley S. Cramer, 31, of Center Township, allegedly stole $1,003.96 worth of tools at the Rural King store at Clearview Mall in Center Township, and made his getaway in a car. The alleged crime was captured on store security cameras, police said.An arrest warrant was later issued for Cramer on several charges including a felony count of retail theft. He is charged with a felony because he has at least three previous shoplifting convictions.He also is charged with a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property and four traffic offenses, including driving with a suspended license, driving a vehicle without insurance and two license plate violations.11:58 p.m. Aug. 12 — Kevin E. Gumpp Sr., 56, of New Castle, was arrested for drunken driving on Pillow Street in Butler. He was later taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.103 percent. A level of 0.09 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Gumpp is charged with driving under the influence, failing to use turn signals and careless driving.

6:23 p.m. Aug. 18 — Two Chicora teenagers were hurt in a one-vehicle crash in Sugarcreek Township. Police said the wreck happened when a pickup truck driven by Abraham B. Rafferty, 18, struck an embankment on Thompson Road just south of Kamerer Hill Road and overturned onto its passenger side.Rafferty and his passenger, Lakota M. Holder, 18, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

4:30 p.m. Aug. 19 — A 17-year-old West Sunbury girl lost control of the car she was driving and rolled over on Route 258 in Liberty Township. Police did not release the name of the girl, who was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.Police said the teen was charged with disregarding traffic lanes.
