NORTH WASHINGTON — The 50th annual North Washington VFD Rodeo will kick off with a parade at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Events follow at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Aug. 22. rain or shine.Five nights of professional rodeo competitions will include steer wrestling, barrel racing, bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, bull riding and team roping each night.Events take place at the North Washington Rodeo Arena, Route 38 (Oneida Valley Road), about 16 miles north of Butler.Admission at the gate is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children age 3 and younger. LEECHBURG — Freeport Theatre Festival will stage Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap," directed by Marushka Steele," from Friday through Aug. 30.The show starts at 8 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.The quintessential English murder mystery about guests trapped in a country guest house, and a detective's search for the killer, presents amusing sequences for audience members.The cast include Phil Powell of Cranberry Township, Donna McKee of Mars, and Alexander Lindsay of Sarver.Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. BRADY TWP — The Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of Route 8 and 173, will hold a "Basics of Navigation" session with a GPS unit at 10 a.m. Aug. 22.The 90 minute hike will explore the natural and cultural history at Jennings and will uncover the unique qualities of the park with the navigational tool.Participants also will learn about the history of navigation and how a GPS unit can enhance the outdoor experience. SLIPPERY ROCK — The Old Stone House presents "Conflict on the Venango Trail" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23 on the grounds of the historic house on Route 8 near its intersection with Route 173.Admission to this re-enacted 18th-century French and Indian War encampment is free.Activities will include a complete living history encampment, military demonstrations and battle re-enactments. Food concessions and colonial craft items will be available.The Venango Trail was a well-worn Native American path that stretched from the forks of the Ohio toward Lake Erie.
