SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University sophomore forward Abdallah Bangura and senior goalkeeper Matt Hunsberger have received PSAC West men's soccer honors.

Bangura was named Athlete of the Week, scoring a goal in SRU's 2-0 win over California (Pa.). He leads The Rock with six goals and 13 points while also leading the PSAC with three game-winning goals.

Hunsberger was named Defensive Athlete of the Week, getting the shutout against California.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Trainer Kelly Rader and driver Shawn Johnston, both of Evans City, pulled off a stunning upset Monday in harness racing at The Meadows.Johnston drove the horse Amazing Dragon, a 40-1 underdog, to victory in a $7,000 pace on a sloppy racing surface. Rader also owns the 4-year-old mare.In other news, Barn Girl — owner by Renee Bercury and trained by Bill Bercury of Slippery Rock — captured her 10th win of the year in the $18,000 Open 1 Handicap Trot Tuesday at The Meadows.Barn Girl extended her career earnings to $843,328.

WARREN, Ohio — Seneca Valley graduate Scott Hangliter and Freeport graduate Mike Chahoy, members of the Grove City College men's golf team, paced among the top 20 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference's Fall Championships at Avalon Lake.Hangliter carded an 82-80-162 to place 14th overall in the two-day tourney. Chahoy tioed for 19th with an 84-85-169.Grove City finished fourth in the seven-team tournament.

NEW YORK — Sam Darnold's spleen is fully healthy and he'll be back under center as the struggling Jets' starting quarterback.Finally.Darnold was cleared by doctors Tuesday to play this week after he missed three games while recovering from mononucleosis. He had medical tests to determine if the swelling in his spleen — a common symptom of the illness — had dissipated enough for him to play again. The Jets announced in a Twitter post that Darnold would start Sunday at home against Dallas.It's some rare good news for the Jets, who are 0-4 — their worst start since 2003 — while dealing with several injuries to key players. And Darnold's illness is at the top of the list.
