James Hays

James “Jim” Benton Hays of Kittanning, who passed away Saturday, was born in Prospect to Dean and Dorothy Hays.

Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as staff sergeant.

He was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed NASCAR, the Pirates and the Steelers.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores Valjean (Pell) Hays.

James is also survived by his son, James Dean Hays and daughter-in-law, Sherrie; his daughter, Janene Lynn Mohney and son-in-law, Randy; his granddaughters, Tara (James) Jageman and Shannon (James) Webb; his grandson, Justin (Kaitlin) Mohney; and six great-grandchildren.

Jim also is survived by his siblings, John Hays, Sally (Rex) Gates and William (Dolly) Hays.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

HAYS — Friends of James “Jim” Benton Hays, who died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Robert Hindman officiating.Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
