William J. “Bill” Smith
William J. “Bill” Smith, 85, of North Washington, Pa., passed away Jan. 7, 2021, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Butler, and was the son of the late William H. Smith and the late Hannah Mae Stevenson.
Bill was a lifelong farmer, and enjoyed growing and selling his famous bodacious sweet corn.
After his retirement from Armco Steel Plant 2, he enjoyed working on his farm, playing cards, and wintering in Florida.
Bill is survived by his six sons, William (Debbe) Smith Jr. of Chicora, Richard (Linda) Smith of Petrolia, Ronald (Deborah) Smith of Petrolia, Randall (Pam) Smith of Petrolia, George (Jojielyn) Smith of Petrolia and Edward (Shelby) Smith of Petrolia; and two daughters, Jeana (Mark) Ness of Renfrew and Jessica (Frank) Buckey of Hubert, N.C.
He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Karen Cary, Christopher Stewart, Matthew Ness, Richard Smith Jr., Andrew Ness, Brittany Thompson, Nancy Anderson, Nicholas Buckley, Kristen Winslow, Brandie Smith, Laura Ness, Aaron Hollis, Amber Smith, Daniel Buckley, Ryan Buckley, Lewis Smith, Collin Lunn, A.J. Smith and T.J. Smith; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his two cats, Moo-Moo and Snowball; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is also survived by his one sister, Elverta (Ted) Polczynski of Freeport, and a brother, Delmar (Barb) Smith of Coraopolis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy M. Smith, whom he married Oct. 19, 1953, and who passed away Aug. 23, 2016; two grandsons, Robert Lee Smith and William J. Smith III; one granddaughter, Shirley Ann Smith; and one brother, Hollis Smith.
