John Zavacky Jr.
John Zavacky Jr., 90, of Lyndora died early Monday morning at UPMC St. Margaret hospital in Aspinwall.
He was born in Lyndora on Nov. 17, 1919, a son of the late John and Anna Sluk Zavacky.
For many years, John had served as the custodian of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, of which he had been a lifelong member.
A solitary and timid man, John enjoyed life's simple pleasures of carpentry, gardening, feeding birds and reading about the lives of saints.
He had served in the U.S. Navy during the peacetime years prior to World War II.
Surviving are four sisters, Amy Passarelli, Eugenia King and Christine Soley, all of Butler and Georgia Hartman of New Castle; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Eugene Zavacky; and four sisters, Helen Lachester, Mary Sally Zymboly, Olga Zavacky and Julia Gavula.
<B>ZAVACKY </B>— Friends of John Zavacky Jr., who died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. His pastor, the Rev. Robert Oravetz, will officiate.
