STRUTHERS, Ohio — Matt Baranchak had a home run, a triple and two singles to lead the Butler Township 16s baseball team to a 10-1 victory over Chambersburg (Md.) at the Colt Super Regional Tournament Thursday.
Anthony Graziani and Colin Williamson each had a double, and Colin McKee, Alex Ziegler and Chris Cotton each recorded a single.
Baranchak also struck out eight batters in five innings on the mound.
Butler Township plays Canon McMillan in the next round today.
TORONTO — Hoping to locate a long-lost gold medal from the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame is helping produce a documentary about the victory.George S. Lyon of Canada won the gold medal 106 years ago, the only time golf was contested in the Olympics.Museum director Karen Howison was at the Canadian Open on Thursday and called it "one of the most important golf artifacts in the world."The hall and Early Renaissance Productions hope to complete the film in 2014, two years before golf returns to the Olympics in the Rio de Janeiro Games.In 1904, Lyon beat favored American Chandler Eagan in the 12-round, six-day competition. Eagan's silver medal is also lost.
HERMITAGE — Brent Rodgers of Cranberry Township won the boys 14-year-old division by firing a 73 to capture the Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course Thursday.Rodgers won by three strokes over Javon Trout.
