ZELIENOPLE — The Passavant Retirement Community is joining the fight to bring relief to those effected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston and around the country.

My Day Out, a program that encourages seniors to socialize and engage in their community, is planning a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 8, at the Passavant Campus in Zelienople.

Proceeds from the event will be collected by the Red Cross to aid those effected by the hurricane.

“The idea (to have a fundraiser) came from one of the My Day Out participants,” said Lesley McGregor, My Day Out manager. “We said ‘let’s have a bake sale!’ and reached out to all the campus.”

They decided to give the proceeds to the Red Cross and began reaching out to the Passavant community to find anyone who would like to help.

“The people supplying the baked goods will be My Day Out, the households and staff,” McGregor said. “We are accepting monetary donations and baked goods.”

Anyone who is looking for a good way to help those struggling in Houston can come down Friday, said McGregor.

“From 11-4 they can come and buy a baked good or make a monetary donation,” she said.
