Cycle strikes truck

Parker area man dies after wreck

LICKING TWP, Clarion County — A Parker area man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer in eastern Clarion County, state police said.

Jeffrey Miller Jr., 24, of Perry Township, died at Clarion Hospital of injuries suffered in the wreck just before 1:30 p.m. in Licking Township, about three miles north of Callensburg.

Authorities said Miller was traveling west on Route 368 on a 2006 Honda motorcycle when he traveled into the opposing lane and struck the side of a 2013 Freightliner truck.

The truck driver Bryan Rutherford, 51, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was not hurt.

The two vehicles collided on a straightaway and investigators did not immediately know what caused Miller to travel into the other lane.

The cycle was destroyed in the collision. Police did not say if Miller was wearing a helmet.

He was taken to Clarion Hospital where he later died in the emergency room. He was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m.

Clarion County Coroner Terry Shaffer said Miller died of severe injuries to the neck and body. There was no autopsy.

Sligo, Callensburg and Parker volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene and Southern Clarion County and Knox Ambulance crews also were called.

Miller worked for Point of Caring, a Knox-based residential/group home provider, authorities said.

The H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home in Parker is handling funeral arrangements.
