Man thrown from tractor taken to hospital

BUFFALO TWP — A man was flown to Allegheny General Hospital Wednesday morning after he was thrown from a tractor while driving in the 100-block of Smith Road about 11 a.m.

Matt Cypher, the chief of Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, said the cause of the accident at 105 Smith Road, which is at its intersection with Sarver Road, remained undetermined.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the man lying injured in a field, with a large farm tractor a short distance away.

“It appears that he was ejected from the tractor at some point,” said Cypher.

He said the man had been driving along the road and was apparently headed south when the accident occurred. Cypher could not immediately describe the nature of the man’s injuries and said the man still was being evaluated when he was flown to the hospital via LifeFlight.

The department did not release the man’s identity, but Cypher said his family had been contacted.
