Friedman's to close downtown store
A local grocery store chain plans to close its only location in downtown Butler on Saturday.
Friedman's Freshmarket at 127 W. Brady Street in Butler will be closing at 6 p.m. Saturday. It will not open again anytime soon, according to the company's leadership.
The store is closing due to financial underperformance, and employees who want to keep working for Friedman's will be allowed to transfer to other stores, according to Carol F. Bitter, president and CEO.
Bitter said this will be the first time in over 117 years that the company will not have a location in downtown Butler. She said the closure may be temporary.
“We have a couple ideas — for down the road — for a new Brady Street Store format,” she said.
