Mary Lou Leckey
Mary Lou Leckey, 87, of Mars passed away peacefully Saturday.
Born March 13, 1928, in Monongalia County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Marion L. and Mabel Louise Cummins White.
Mary Lou lived a long and rich life. She was the valedictorian at Clay-Battelle High School. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and practiced obstetrical, private duty and industrial nursing for most of her life.
She married her husband, Howard, on May 31, 1952, with whom she raised three children.
Mrs. Leckey kept a daily journal from 1939 until one week before her death. She was a voracious reader. Mary Lou loved to play games, especially Scrabble, dominoes and cribbage. She had a passion for travel and visited all 50 states and numerous countries with her husband and her children.
Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who strived to teach the importance of living life. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Howard “Chip” L. Leckey III and his wife, Jane, of Kingwood, Texas, Candace Leckey McPheron and her husband, Doug, of Seven Fields and Penny Leckey Haldane and her husband, Les, of Kailua, Hawaii; one brother, David C. White and his wife, Regina, of Morgantown, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Brittany Leckey, Kevin Leckey, Heather McPheron Jackman and her husband, Ken, Tara McPheron Ruzomberka and her husband, Keith, John McPheron, Lacy Haldane Crowley and her husband, Brendan, and Kelly Haldane; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Caroline, Henry, Brayden and Reagan; and two nieces and one nephew.
In addition to her husband, Howard L. Leckey Jr., who preceded her in death June 13, 1982, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Marion “Buck” White Jr.
LECKEY — As per the wishes of Mary Lou Leckey, who died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, there will be no public visitation.
