Mars girls U-15 unit wins lacrosse titleLATROBE — The Mars Girls Lacrosse U-15 team recently won the WPSLA’s annual league tournament at St. Vincent College.The team was unbeaten in defeating Moon, PYLAX, Erie, Chartiers Valley and Hampton.Team members included Alaina Metal, Emily Hayward, Camille Bromley, Aurora Marcoux, Emily Rogers, Dayton Flesner, Gianna Buzzelli, Gabby Baysek, Amanda Scurci, Mara Fuller, Jaden Pasquinelli, Emily Greco, Paige Seles, Stephanie Cimini, Ruby Watson, Peyton Edinger, Sara Virostek and Sydney Weiss.Coaches were Shannon Rossi, Todd Fuller and Bob Marcoux.
6 area players in all-star gameWASHINGTON, Pa. — Six Butler County players will participate in the WPIAL Baseball Coaches Class AAAA-AAA Baseball All-Star Game at Ross Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Sunday.Vince Augustine and Troy Martin of Seneca Valley will play for Class AAAA, Knoch’s Asa Adams and Chris Law, Mars’ Ryan Leshinsky and Ty Reginelli for Class AAA.The Class AA-A all-star game will start at approximately 4 p.m. There are 84 players representing 62 schools in the contests in the two games.
Vintage baseball game set July 11The Butler County Historical Society will present a “vintage baseball game” at 6:30 p.m. July 11 at Kelly Automotive Park.The game between the Pittsburgh Franklins and Butler Barons will depict baseball as it was played in the 1860s. President Abe Lincoln will throw out the first pitch.Adult tickets are $5, senior tickets $4, children under 12 will be admitted free. Tickets are available at the Butler County Historical Society on 123 W. Diamond St. or at May’s Music Shoppe at 247 E.Jefferson St. in Butler.
Area golfers earn spot in WPA tourneyCranberry Township resident Nicklaus Cuny shot 2-under par 70 at Lone Pine Country Club in Washington, Pa., to qualify for the 115th West Penn Amateur Golf Tournament.Cuny placed second in the event, behind Garrett Kimple of Linesville, who shot a 69. Valencia residents Connor Schmidt and Ben Mullins, who both shot 75s, also qualified.Nic Leone, of Butler, qualified Monday by shooting a 3-over par 74 at a qualifier at Hill Crest Country Club.The championships will be held June 8 and 9 at St. Clair Country Club.
