SPRINGFIELD TWP, Mercer County — State police are searching for an unknown robber who ran off with a money drawer taken from a convenience store early this morning.

But the suspect didn't get much and no one was hurt in the 1:15 a.m. robbery at the Kwik Fill/Red Apple store on Leesburg-Grove City Road in Springfield Township, near the Mercer-Butler County line.

"It's estimated the cash drawer had $80 to $120 in it," said investigating officer Trooper James Puskar. "Not a lot."

Police have no suspects and did not immediately know if the store's surveillance camera captured any video of the crime.

The robber is described as a black man, about 6 feet, 1 inch tall with a thin build. He was wearing dark jeans and a yellow and gray jacket.

When he walked into the store, which is close to Prime Outlets, he also wore a makeshift disguise — a white towel that was draped over his head, partially covering his face, Puskar said.

"He had it draped over his head," Puskar said, "and partially over his face."

There were no customers inside and just one clerk on the job.

"When he came in he had a hand in his coat pocket," Puskar said. "It made the cashier think he might have a gun."

The robber didn't say a word, police said.

"He walked up to the counter," the trooper said, "reached over and took the drawer. He then fled the store on foot, still carrying the drawer."
