SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's cross country standout Jen Harpp was named to the PSAC Fall Top 10.This honor is awarded to five males and five females who excel in the classroom and in their respective sports. Athletes must possess at least a 3.50 grade point average to be eligible for this award.Harpp has been named to the Top 10 three times in her career.
INDIANA, Pa. — Curt Cignetti was named head football coach at Indiana (Pa.) University.Cignetti, 49, eldest son of former IUP coach Frank Cignetti, has 28 years of coaching experience. He joins IUP from Alabama, where he served as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.Cignetti spent four years with the Crimson Tide, was a coach on their 2009 BCS national championship team and brought in the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the country in 2008.He also coached at North Carolina State and Pitt, serving as recruiting coordinator at both schools.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University center Brandon Fusco received an invitation to participate in the 62nd annual Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.The Seneca Valley graduate is the first SRU player to earn an invitation. He is one of three Division II players who will take part.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dave Wannstedt is back in the NFL after being hired to be the Buffalo Bills' assistant head coach in a job that reunites him with good friend and colleague Chan Gailey.The Bills announced the hiring Friday after the two sides met for most of the day to negotiate the contract. The team did not divulge terms of the deal, though a person familiar with talks told The Associated Press that the contract runs for more than one season.Wannstedt returns to the NFL after spending the past six years coaching at Pitt, where he was forced to resign last month.
