Daryl Hartzell

Daryl Edmond Hartzell, 70, of Renfrew died at 5:15 a.m. Dec. 6, 2020, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Daryl was born on Sept. 22, 1950, in Butler. He was the son of the late John M. Hartzell and the late Audrey R. Hixon Hartzell. He was the youngest of five children.

Daryl graduated from Seneca Valley High School.

He earned his associate degree at Butler County Community College, and attended Slippery Rock University as well as Westminster College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. He later attended the police academy and became a police officer in Evans City.

In his early years, Daryl worked as an art teacher for a local school district. With many arising health issues, he used his artistic talents to create a successful family-run woodworking business.

He married Evalyn “Sam” Hartzell on March 12, 1971.

Over the next few years, he was blessed with five amazing children.

Daryl is survived by his wife of 49 years; his five children, Holly Hartzell-Reviglio (Nick), Autumn Timmons (Chuck), John Hartzell (Erika), Bethany Anderson (Nate) and Benjamin Hartzell (Saralynn); and his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Butler Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, for their quality of care while Daryl was in the hospital.
