Joseph Leo Conroy Jr.

Joseph Leo Conroy Jr.

Joseph Leo Conroy Jr., 70, of Slippery Rock Township passed away peacefully in his home Monday.

Born Dec. 14, 1947, in Wheeling, W.VA., he was the son of the late Joseph Leo Conroy Sr. and Dolores Coll Conroy.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed on the USS Dupont (DD 941), a Forrest Sherman-Class Destroyer.

Joe was retired as an insulator, working out of Heat and Frost Insulators Local 2 and served as their former president.

He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt and fish. He was a quick-witted man of few words, soaking in a conversation before responding with a pithy one liner.

Joe was passionate about dogs, especially his four-legged companion, Maggie.

Never wanting to be a burden, Joe put his family first. He will always be remembered for his words when parting ways, “Go easy.” Joe will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Joseph Leo Conroy III and his wife, Emily, of Evans City and Shelly Lynn Conroy Ovadia and her husband, Dr. Philip Ovadia, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his granddaughters, Kyleigh Conroy and Eva and Layla Ovadia; his brothers, Daniel Conroy of Butler, Michael Conroy and his wife, Kim, and John Conroy and his wife, Rose, both of Slippery Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Georgette Conroy.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen.
