SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — State police continue to investigate a Friday night crash on Frew Mill Road that killed a New Castle man.

Speed is a suspected factor in the one-vehicle wreck that killed 50-year-old David Michael Fritch, authorities said.

Police said the accident happened about 7:45 p.m. when the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer that Fritch was driving went off the road, traveled about 55 feet and struck a wooden post.

The car continued on, traveling more than 100 feet while hitting a sign post and a pine tree along the way. According to a police report, the vehicle left 147 feet of skid marks on the road.

Fritch, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Slippery Rock Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted police with helping close the road to traffic for about two hours.

Fritch, a skilled woodworker and cabinet maker was employed as a union carpenter.

The Boylan Funeral Home in Zelienople is handing funeral arrangements.
