Police suspect OD in woman's death

WORTH TWP — State police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found early Thursday morning, in a tent in woods off West Park Road.

Authorities suspect the 36-year-old woman suffered a fatal drug overdose. Investigators did not immediately release her name.

The woman apparently had been recently living in the woods in Worth Township with her boyfriend, police said.

A 911 call shortly after 2 a.m. for a woman reportedly not breathing sent Slippery Rock volunteer firefighters Slippery Rock EMS to the scene.

Once emergency crews discovered the woman was dead, said Ryan Hanchosky, chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department, they backed out and notified police.

The body was in the woods about one-quarter mile off West Park Road. The fire department provided lighting for police to conduct their investigation.

Police said investigators recovered a syringe and empty stamp bags of suspected heroin from the scene. No other information was immediately available.

Butler County Coroner William Young III was called and he later pronounced the woman dead. An autopsy was planned Thursday afternoon. The results were not known.

Young did not return a telephone call Thursday.
