State police are investigating a motorcycle accident that occurred on Dinnerbell Road in Jefferson Township Friday afternoon. The driver was transported to a hospital by ambulance. The bike struck a riding mower that was on the street, emergency responders said.

JEFFERSON TWP — A motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with a leg injury after his bike collided with a riding mower that was being driven across Dinnerbell Road Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 4:44 p.m. at 571 Dinnerbell Road where the bike, which was traveling east toward Saxonburg, and the mower collided.

State police said the motorcyclist, who is about 30 years old, was not wearing a helmet. The bike was towed from the scene with heavy damage.

The man operating the mower suffered a cut on his head but refused medical treatment, police said.

Police estimated the bike was traveling 50 miles an hour.

Randall Byers said his 70-year-old cousin, Lester Byers, was crossing the road on the mower when the accident took place.

Randall Byers said he owns property on both sides of the road. He and his cousin regularly drive the mower across the road to mow, he said.

Randall Byers said he didn’t see the accident and didn’t know how fast the motorcycle was traveling, but that traffic commonly speeds past his house.

“People come up over the hill way too fast,” he said.

He said the mower had a bent handle and the guard was “dinged,” but it was drivable.

Family members will monitor his cousin and take him to see a doctor if necessary, Byers said.
