Irene Westerman
Irene Westerman, 95, of Cabot passed away Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 4, 1920, in Sarver, she was the daughter of the late James W. Mitchell and Myrtle P. (Wade) Mitchell.
Irene was a graduate of Freeport High School and a 1946 graduate of the Butler Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked as a registered nurse for Butler Memorial Hospital from 1946 to 1960. Irene was also part-owner and secretary of Mitchell and Westerman.
She was the past-president twice of the Butler Hospital Alumni Association. Irene was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Butler 45 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Irene enjoyed gardening, watching birds, cooking, reading, taking care of people and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Judy A. Steele of Miami Springs, Fla., Karen (James R.) Brown of Cabot and Patty (Steve) Gillespie of Charlotte, N.C.; her niece, Carol (Blaine) Frederick of East Brady; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild with one on the way; her sisters, Myrtle Miller of Sarver and Grace (Milo) Maurhoff of Sarver; and several nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.F. “Bud” Westerman, who passed away in 2004; her son, James F. Westerman, who passed away in 1994; her brother, James W. Mitchell Jr.; and her sisters, Jessie and Charlotte Mitchell and Jean Skillen.
WESTERMAN — Friends of Irene Westerman, who died Saturday, March 19, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Services will follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman officiating.
