Arts Abound
SAXONBURG — The 2014 Saxonburg Festival of the Arts arrives this weekend with a 5K run and walk, crafts, food, fine arts, photography, a Rodfathers car cruise, quilt show, antique tractors and music galore.
The photography show is open to amateur photographers age 12 and older. Entries are $7 per photo and entrants are permitted up to six photos. Student entries for those ages 12 to 18 are $2 per photo.
Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for the top three in each of 10 categories: churches, sports, scenic, wildlife, domestic animals, people, youth, open, monochromatic with color splash, and black and white.
Awards also will be presented to “Best of Show” and “People's Choice.”
The exhibit of fine arts, in its 29th year, goes on at Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church's lower level.
The featured artist will be Alice Ferraro. Basically self-taught, Ferraro has discovered that colored pencil is the medium she prefers. Her favorite subject is horses.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Shari Finney will be doing portraits. Prints from Mark Anderson, Alice Ferraro and Sylvia Neubert will be available to win.
Events take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, except for the 5K run and walk which begins at 8 a.m.; and from noon to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
