ADAMS TWP — A St. Barnabas employee is accused of stealing medical supplies and medicine prescribed to a patient.

Township police have accused Jill M. Jackson, 40, of Cranberry Township of stealing catheters, IV extension tubing, an IV start pack and an Oxycodone pill from St. Barnabas’ Valencia Woods Nursing Center during the midnight shift between Jan. 22 and 23.

Police reports state Jackson started work at St. Barnabas on Jan. 17 and worked four shifts before the incident occurred.

Police reports state on the night of the theft, Jackson lost keys to the narcotics drug box. The keys were eventually found and IV supplies were discovered in Jackson’s purse.

Another nurse took photographs of the supplies inside the purse.

A plastic lock to a drug cart was also found to be cut and supplies were noticed missing. An Oxycodone pill was missing from a foil packet belonging to a patient.

According to police, Jackson said she had signed the medication out and said she gave the pill to the patient during the night. However, the patient said she did not request or receive any medication at that time.

According to police, when Jackson visited Adams Township police for an interview, she at first denied taking the supplies and pill. However, after being shown evidence against her, she admitted to the thefts, according to reports.

“She confirmed that she has had past issues with addiction and acknowledged that she needs to go back to rehab,” police reports state.

Jackson faces charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance. She waived her charges Tuesday to county court, where she will be arraigned May 16.

She was released on her own recognizance.

The nursing center was unavailable for comment.
