Water main breaks in EC

Service restored early Wednesday

EVANS CITY — A major water main break Tuesday evening affected all customers in the borough before its repair Wednesday morning.

Around 5:30 p.m., the Evans City Water & Sewer Authority learned of a water main break near the intersection of Route 68 and North Washington Street. According to Ed Tanski, authority president, the break affected water pressure to every customer in Evans City.

“There was nil, next to nothing,” in terms of water pressure, Tanski said.

To avoid a boil water advisory, the authority maintained some pressure through the main. Crews were able to repair the break around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Tanski.

Tanski said aging infrastructure and recent weather patterns contributed to the water main’s failure.

“The freeze-thaw cycle this year has been outrageous,” he said.
