SAXONBURG — Hundreds of people attended Alexis “Alex” Summers’ funeral Friday at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Summers was killed Tuesday night when she lost control of the 2003 Subaru Legacy she was driving and collided with a tree on Hannahstown Road in Jefferson Township.

The Knoch High School senior was 17 years old.

The funeral was co-officiated by pastors Brad French and Chris Marshall of New Life Christian Ministries, where her family attends Sunday services.

The two-and-a-half hour service included French’s singing “Homesick,” a Christian song by MercyMe, and several prayers, including a reading of Philippians 4:13, which was Alex’s favorite Bible verse.

The family invited people to tell stories in memory of their daughter.

Many stories were shared by classmates who both laughed and cried through their remembrances.

With the many tears shed and the hugs shared, came a picture of a wholesome teen who lived her life with compassion. She touched friends and strangers with her warmth, kindness, and good cheer.
