Plowing slated at free garden plots

BUTLER TWP — The free garden plots at 120 McCune Lane behind the Butler County Communications Center will be plowed during two upcoming events, and the public is invited to both.

Kim Geyer, county commissioner, announced this week that from 10 a.m. to noon April 27 Bonnie Scheerbaum will plow a part of the garden land using her team of horses.

Then, beginning at 8 a.m. May 11 the Western Pennsylvania Garden Tractor Association will plow the entire county garden area.

Rain dates for the two events are May 18 and May 25, respectively.

Longtime gardeners at the site have until May 7 to inform the county Penn State Extension Office whether they want to reserve the same garden spots as 2018 or change to another plot.

Those who did not garden last year, but are looking to reserve a spot, and past gardeners who want to reserve their plot can call Jennifer McIntire at the extension office at 724-287-4761 and press 1.

More information on the gardens is also available at that number or by email at jzm1159@psu.edu.
