Three people were flown to Pittsburgh hospitals following an early Saturday morning, one-vehicle crash on Old Route 422 in Franklin Township that resulted in two of the three being ejected from the vehicle.

Michael J. Hilliard, 38, of Butler was flown to Allegheny General Hospital for serious injuries after being thrown from his SUV, according to a police report. He was listed in fair and stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital as of Sunday evening, according to hospital staff.

One of his two passengers, Bett McCandless-Meadows, 44, of Slippery Rock was also thrown from the vehicle and flown to UPMC Presbyterian with serious injuries. She remained in the ICU as of Sunday, an operator at the hospital said. A second passenger, Kenneth Kline, 46, of Butler, sustained minor injuries but was not ejected from the vehicle. He was treated and released at UPMC Presbyterian.

Butler EMS responded to the crash along with state police. According to the report, at about 2:58 a.m. Hilliard lost control of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving west bound, hit a mailbox and went into a ditch. The car then flipped over multiple times, hitting a tree in the process. At some point while the vehicle was rolling, Hilliard and McCandless-Meadows were ejected.

None of the three were wearing seat belts. The report was not clear on what caused Hilliard to lose control of the vehicle or whether or not the crash remained under investigation. The officer handling the crash was not available Sunday night.
