Judge stops jury's discussions in Orie trial

PITTSBURGH — Jury deliberations in state Sen. Jane Orie's trial were halted this morning after the judge in the case says he suspects two defense documents were altered.

The prosecution brought the documents to the judge's attention today.

The judge is expected to rule on this matter early this afternoon.

The prosecution wants the jury to be told of this issue, while the defense attorney wants the judge to declare a mistrial.

Orie, R-40th, is charged with 10 counts, including theft of service, criminal conspiracy, tampering with evidence and violating the state's Ethics Act. She is charged by the Allegheny County District Attorney's office.
