Butler police vehicles will soon have new on-board laptop computers that are compatible with the county’s new 911 system when it rolls out later this year.

City council agreed Tuesday to buy six laptops from Dell for $11,291.

Police Chief Bob O’Neill said the existing computers are not compatible with the new emergency communications system.

The new computers are easily installed in place of the older units, he said.

Council also approved a three-year agreement with Constellation New Energy to buy electricity for .045 cents per kilowatt hour.

That rate will result in a projected annual cost of $41,858, a savings of $2,900 over the second lowest rate of .046 cents that the city received in an electric supply proposal from BidURenergy.
