Marshals catch felon; new possession charges filed

JACKSON TWP — U.S. marshals have captured a felon sought in a Butler County Task Force investigation that turned up suspected heroin and several baggies of suspected crack cocaine, authorities said.

Clifford J. Anderson, 40, of Center Township, was nabbed around 7:35 a.m. Monday at a home on Millstream Lane in Jackson Township. He is in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Officers with the U.S. Marshals Services arrested him without incident, said county Detective Tim Fennell, who leads the task force.

Authorities had been looking for Anderson since Aug. 20 when District Judge Lewis Stoughton issued an arrest warrant for him stemming from the task force case.

A day earlier, authorities said, county narcotics officers served a search warrant at the suspect's home on Route 8 near the Clearview Mall and found 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin and plastic baggies containing suspected crack.

Also allegedly seized was a small amount of suspected powder cocaine, several scales, other contraband and a large knife with metal knuckles.

Anderson was arraigned Monday on charges in the case, including two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Additionally, he is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon, all misdemeanors.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 at Stoughton's office in Chicora. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.

Court records showed that Anderson has four prior felony drug convictions for cases between 1998 and 2000.
