Butler County welcomes megastar Michaels home
Rock megastar Bret Michaels pays homage to his Butler roots tonight with his high-octane performance at the Big Butler Fair.
The Poison frontman and host of the former VH1 show “Rock of Love” was born in Butler and lived here as a child. It’s his first concert in Butler County, although he’s been back many times to visit family.
The Butler County commissioners have proclaimed today as Bret Michaels Day. They’ll present Michaels with their proclamation before his 8 p.m. performance, which is free with the cost of general admission to the Big Butler Fair.
Michaels, 51. grew up in the Highfield neighborhood of Lyndora. He still has relatives here.
Celebrity seems to come naturally to Michaels. The singer, songwriter, actor and television personality has recently became a reality television star, too.
But that doesn’t mean his success has always been easy. There have been medical challenges and setbacks — recovery from a massive brain hemorrhage and major heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart. A Type I diabetic his entire life, Michaels takes insulin five times a day.
In spite of his physical challenges, the performer says he holds nothing back in his performances; he never has. Michaels said he brings just as much passion to his performances as he ever has, and tonight’s show will be no exception. He promises “lots of pyro.”
“In my life, I’ve learned, I assume nothing,” he said in an interview published Tuesday. “I come to have a great time, and I want to bring the party. We have amazing friends and fans and family. I want them to know that we, Bret Michaels Band, will host a massive party. That’s what it is.”
Happy Bret Michaels Day. This homecoming party is sure to be a good time.
