Wearing festive green- and red outfits and Santa hats, employees from the Center for Community Resources hustled through a cold and windy Christmas Eve to hand out Christmas cheer along Main Street.

The center purchased 2,651 cookie tins from its downtown neighbor, Rite Aid, and CCR employees handed out about 1,700 of the tins in Butler, 700 in Clarion County and the rest in Elk and Cameron counties, all of which the center serves.

“It's a full-fronted effort with CCR staff,” Mike Robb, center executive director, said. “We hit all the cars, but we hit all the local businesses, too.”

Robb said the cookies brighten people's day, with many stopping to roll down their windows to take a tin, and even the ones who didn't still offered a wave or a honk.

“We're just spreading Christmas cheer,” Robb said.

Robb said while the holidays are a cheerful time for many, they can be a burden to others.

“Sometimes holidays are tough on a lot of people,” he said.

With that in mind, Robb said the center places an informational magnet on each tin, spreading the holiday spirit and support with one giving hand.The magnets have phone numbers for the center's 24/7 crisis line as well as the new text-based service.“Don't be the one, call someone,” the magnet says.The center has two locations in Butler, one on South Main and the other on East North Street.Information about the center's services is also available www.ccrinfo.org.“The mission of the Center for Community Resources (CCR) is to make a positive difference in everyday lives by connecting people to a network of support and services essential for actively learning, working and living in the community,” the center's mission statement reads.
