Snow storm moves across county
There were a few vehicle accidents this morning as a snow storm started to move across Butler County.
One man was injured about 6:30 a.m. when he crashed his vehicle into a hillside on the 500 block of Sarver Road in Buffalo Township.
The man was bleeding from the head when emergency crews arrived at the scene, according to 911 reports. He was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital by ambulance.
Another accident occurred in Buffalo Township on Route 28 near Exit 17 at about 7:45 a.m. A woman was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital with a hand injury.
Traffic was tied up when a southbound tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 79 near mile marker 94 in Muddy Creek Township at about 10:20 a.m.
The rig crashed into the center median, according to dispatch reports. One person was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital from the scene.
While the snow made morning commutes difficult, there hasn’t been an unusually high number of emergency calls relating to the weather.
“It’s been a standard, snowy Tuesday morning,” said Steve Bicehouse, director of Butler County emergency services.
Bicehouse said the 911 center has been busy with the accidents and notifications to road crews, but said it was typical for a winter day.
“Nothing has been too taxing yet,” he said.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for Butler County until 7 p.m.
The state Department of Transportation has reduced the speed limit on Interstate 80 to 45 mph from the Ohio state line through Clearfield County.
