Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., has in its collection Asian art and pieces of German Meissen porcelain. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, except holidays. A Slippery Rock University exhibition opens Saturday at the Spinning Plate Gallery, 5720 Friendship Ave. in East Liberty. Two dozen art faculty, students and alumni will be part of “Collective Independence” through July 31. An artist’s reception is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. July 9 at the gallery. Carnegie Museum of Art, 4400 Forbes Ave., presents Chinese artist Ai Weiwei’s Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads, made up of 12 figures of the traditional Chinese zodiac, each cast in bronze standing over 10 feet tall and weighing around 2,000 pounds, through Aug. 29. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays with extended hours until 8 p.m. Thursdays, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays; closed Tuesdays and major holidays. Museum admission is $19.95 for adults, $14.95 for senior citizens age 65 and older, $11.95 for students with ID and children ages 3 to 18, and free for children younger than 3.
