Police say suspect wanted on warrant resisted arrest

Ralph Myers

A man with 11 prior convictions for driving while suspended is behind bars after state police say he resisted arrest during a weekend traffic stop in Cherry Township.

The suspect, Ralph G. Myers, 40, no known address, also was wanted on a warrant when troopers pulled him over about 2:20 a.m. Sunday on Branchton Road where they noticed the license plate on the car he was driving belonged on a different vehicle.

Police said they knew Myers and they also knew about the warrant for him. But the suspect allegedly denied he was the man police said he was.

When one of the troopers attempted to arrest the defendant, police said, he turned away. Police, in turn, forced him to the ground.

A subsequent check of Myers' driving record, police said, revealed the nearly dozen prior convictions for driving during suspension.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing the administration of law or other government function, having a fraudulent license plate, disorderly conduct, loitering and prowling at night, driving with a suspended license and four traffic violations.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bond following arraignment.

Myers' preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Tuesday at Stoughton's office in Chicora. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
