The Butler Health System has announced it will open a BHS Primary Care facility in Ellwood City.

The health system would not elaborate on the move, and only offered a brief statement Monday afternoon regarding the plan.

“Butler Health System has provided health services to the community of Ellwood City for many years and remains committed to doing so,” said a statement from Jana Panther, Butler Health System's director of public relations. “In addition to cardiology services, which have been available in Ellwood City for years, BHS will soon be adding BHS Primary Care, located in the North Star Plaza at 235 State Route 288.”

It is unknown whether BHS had planned to open a physician's office in Ellwood City before the recent closing of Ellwood City Medical Center or if the move is in response to the closing.

Panther did not say when the BHS Primary Care office would open in Ellwood City.

North Star Plaza is across Mercer Street from Franklin Plaza, which now contains two health care offices, Heritage Valley ConvenientCare and UPMC Primary Care.
