Teen came to county to find job at post office

SEVEN FIELDS — Courtney Daily, the 18-year-old woman who died early Wednesday morning after being shot by a friend, reportedly had come to Butler County from Colorado in search of a job.

She arrived here Nov. 10 and already had one interview. A second interview was planned Saturday, Cranberry Township police said.

According to media reports in Colorado Springs, Daily left that community and came to Seven Fields to find work at the post office.

Daily had been staying with Lillie Rutledge and her son, Eric, at 102 Woodhaven Drive while trying for the job.

Eric Rutledge, 18, now is in the Butler County Prison without bail, charged with homicide.

Daily died at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian hospital, where she was flown after the shooting at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Cranberry Township police report, the two teens were in the house when they heard a noise and Rutledge got out a shotgun and loaded one shell into it, but he claimed not in the barrel.
