Indoor dog park gets preliminary OK

CRANBERRY TWP — An indoor dog park was given preliminary approval Monday by the township Planning Advisory Commission.

The one-story, 19,425-square-foot facility would be located on a 1.2-acre plot on Rochester Road.

Developers Jon Hanan and Sarah Gover had previously presented plans to the commissioners, who gave preliminary approval after discussion Monday.

According to Jordan Holloway, manager of planning and development services for the township, the plan is in compliance with township ordinances, including setback and stormwater retention guidelines. The developer made changes to the side of the building to make it more attractive from the road, he said.

Additionally, shrubs and green space will be used instead of fencing around the parking lot, and planter boxes will be added.

The developers said they will conduct a study to determine the amount of traffic impact, although Henshaw said the business likely wouldn't create enough new traffic to warrant road improvements to be made on their behalf. Instead, the study will help determine the amount to be paid through impact fees.
