Butler police are investigating what they think were two unrelated fatal drug overdoses since Sunday.

Investigators are awaiting final autopsy reports in the deaths of Tina Hetrick, 40, and Chad Spahn, 28, police Deputy Chief David Adam said Monday.

Hetrick had apparently been dead for some time about 3:20 p.m. Sunday when her 21-year-old son found her body on the living floor at her home on the 500 block of West New Castle Street.

Authorities said there were no signs of trauma or foul play.

Adam said police found a hypodermic needle beside her left arm and other needles and empty stamp bags of suspected heroin around her body.

Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Hetrick dead about 4 p.m. An autopsy was conducted Sunday night.

A cause of death is pending toxicology results, Barr said.

Spahn was found about 8:15 a.m. Monday by his grandmother at their home on St. Paul Street, police said. She reported finding him unresponsive.

Paramedics got there first and found his body on the bathroom floor. Police also found a syringe nearby.

Barr pronounced Spahn dead about 8:45 a.m. There was no evidence to suggest he met with foul play. An autopsy was planned for Monday night. No other information was immediately available.
