BUTLER TWP — Township police have arrested a 15-year-old Butler student, after the boy made what investigators say was a “noncredible” bomb threat Wednesday afternoon at the Butler Intermediate High School.

In a news release, police say they investigated the threat, which was made at about 12:35 p.m. Wednesday in a restroom.

Butler Superintendent Brian White said school officials turned the matter over to township police, after determining that there was no imminent danger Wednesday. He said the district would be sending a letter home to parents Thursday regarding the incident.

“We felt it was a threat, but not a credible threat,” White said.

He said the student responsible for the threat was identified using security camera footage.

In the letter, he wrote that the district takes all threats seriously and cited a recent letter from Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger, which said that his office is asking police to file charges immediately and seek imprisonment for school threats.

“If you see or hear any disturbing statements involving our schools or students, please remember to immediately report it to the school district and local law enforcement,” the letter read.

Township Police Chief John Hays declined to discuss the exact contents of the threat or what the 15-year-old suspect told police after being arrested.

Police said the student was arrested and turned over to Butler County Juvenile Services.

The boy has been charged with terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.
