Driver charged with DUI, attempting to elude police
A repeat drunken driver was arrested in connection with a weekend state police pursuit that ended when a trooper used his cruiser to disable the suspect's car in northern Butler County.
Shane A. Everetts, 27, of Washington Township is being held in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bond. He is charged with felony counts of fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving under the influence.
He also is charged with a misdemeanor of possession of drug paraphernalia and a half dozen traffic violations, including driving with a suspended license-DUI related.
Police said they went to Everetts' Route 38 home Sunday to serve him with a warrant. Troopers saw him drive away in a car, and they eventually caught up to him in their police vehicles.
But when they tried to make a traffic stop, according to charging documents, the defendant continued traveling north on Route 38.
The car crossed over the white fog line, police said, and Everetts eventually turned right onto Parker Road.
A pursuing trooper positioned the patrol vehicle and initiated a (precision immobilization technique) maneuver,” documents said, disabling (the suspect's) vehicle.”
Everetts smelled of alcohol, police said, and a search of his coat pocket turned up a metal smoking pipe. He later refused to submit to a blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Police noted that the defendant has two prior convictions for DUI. Those cases date back to 2014 and 2018, according to court records.
Everetts' preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
