A Butler man charged with sexually assaulting a child pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of indecent assault in Butler County Court.

Paul A. Claypoole, 40, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor indecent assault before President Judge Thomas Doerr.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 11½ to 23 months in Butler County Prison, followed by probation and 15 years registration as a sexual offender, according to Assistant District Attorney Richard Bosco.

Claypoole was initially charged with felony sexual assault counts, including two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and three counts of misdemeanor indecent assault following an incident on Center Avenue on April 3, 2017.

Butler police filed the charges after a witness reported seeing Claypoole assaulting a child through a window of the home as he walked by around 9:30 p.m.

The window was about 10 feet from the street and the lights were on at the time, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The victim also was naked, the witness recounted, and was being assaulted in what appeared to be a laundry room at the home.

After yelling at the man, the witness reported that the man turned off all the lights in the home.

Police said the child is 15 years old.

Claypoole continues to be held in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail pending sentencing.
