School musical nominees announced
MIDLAND, Beaver County — For 23 years, the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards have celebrated student achievement in high school musical theater in Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties.
All schools in the three counties were invited to participate, with 15 schools taking part this year, including the high schools of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, Freeport, Knoch, Moniteau and Union.
This years nominees from county schools are:
For Best Musical Budget 1: Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic's “Once Upon A Mattress”; Freeport's “Cinderella”; and Moniteau's “The Sound of Music”
Best Musical Budget 2: Knoch's “42nd Street”
Best actor: Aidan Neigh as Julian Marsh in Knoch's “42nd Street”
Best Actress: Michaela Morreale as Princess Winnifred in Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic's “Once Upon a Mattress”; Addison Albert as Peggy Sawyer in Knoch's “42nd Street” and Madison Kohler as Maria in Moniteau's "The Sound of Music"
Best Supporting Actress: Halle Surgil as Charlotte in Freeport's “Cinderella,” Samantha Jo Barnes as Maggie Jones in Knoch's “42nd Street,” and Ashton Huff as Elsa Schraeder in Moniteau's “The Sound of Music.”
County high schools also received nominations in the categories of choreography, crew, ensemble, direction, orchestra, costumes, lighting and scenic designs.
As a program of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, a ceremony to announce the award winners will be held May 20 at the center at 1 Lincoln Park. For tickets, call 724-576-4644.
