MUDDY CREEK TWP — A Butler County man faces a hearing next month on charges he overdosed moments after his car rear-ended another vehicle.

Timothy S. Bailey, 30, of Cranberry Township had opioid medication in his system March 13 when he wrecked on Route 422 at the Pilot truck stop in Muddy Creek Township, state police said. No injuries were reported.

The other driver, who was stopped at a red light, pulled into the truck stop parking lot after the crash. Police said Bailey followed but then “went unconscious” from an apparent overdose, according to court documents.

Troopers administered two doses of the opioid antidote drug naloxone to revive the defendant.

He told police that he took two Percocet pills before the crash. Percocet is the trade name for an opium-based pain reliever.

“He stated he has never overdosed,” documents said, “but has used pills for a long period of time.”

He said he snorts crushed up pills.

In his vehicle, according to a police affidavit, troopers found a rolled-up 5-dollar bill with suspected drug residue on it.

Police arrested Bailey for suspected drugged driving and took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology reports later showed he had cocaine and the synthetic opioid fentanyl in his system, documents said.

Police on May 18 charged Bailey with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle without insurance, driving a vehicle without inspection, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.

His preliminary hearing is set for July 5 at the office of District Judge William O'Donnell in Slippery Rock.
