Driver ejected, passenger trapped following crash

Pennsylvania State Police investigate the scene of a one-car accident Tuesday along Route 38 in Center Township.

CENTER TWP — A puddle of blood on the road near a cellphone and a single black sneaker marked the spot where a woman landed after being ejected from a car Tuesday morning.

A silver Pontiac G5 sat cockeyed in the middle of Route 38, also known as Oneida Valley Road, near Marshall Offstein Auto Sales and Towing. The evidence of the ejection was an estimated 75 feet east of the car.

The original dispatch to area fire departments and medics was for a crash with a woman lying on the road.

According to a report on the accident by State Police Trooper Casey Fuller, the Pontiac was driven by Sierra R. Cranmer, 23, of Chicora. The Pontiac was traveling south on Route 38 when it crossed the center line, left the road and hit an embankment before shearing off a utility pole atop the bank.

“The car continued south and (Cranmer) was ejected,” the report said.

Firefighters extricated Cranmer's passenger, Shane A. Everetts, 26, of North Washington from the vehicle.

Neither of them were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

Fuller said both had serious injuries.

Cranmer was taken by Butler Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital's helipad, where a LifeFlight helicopter flew her to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.Everetts was flown from Butler Memorial to UPMC Presbyterian by STAT MedEvac. The conditions of the pair were not known Tuesday evening. The scene was made more dangerous when emergency responders and firefighters arrived by live electrical lines that sparked near the crash and along the road shortly after the accident.Multiple West Penn Power trucks quickly arrived on the scene to de-energize the live lines.

Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman, said 230 customers initially were without power after the pole was sheared. That number dropped to 134 after crews arrived and swapped some customers onto other lines.“Due to the flexibility of our grid, we can feed customers using alternate lines in some areas,” Meyers said.Power crews had to wait until troopers finished investigating and firefighters cleared the road of debris before they could begin work to replace the line.Meyers said about 130 customers were without power after the accident. He said power was returned to all customers by 4:30 p.m.Oneida Valley Road was closed between Glenwood Way and Pine Tract Road for about three hours as a result of the crash.Unionville, Oneida Valley, Oakland Township and Chicora volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.
