Beverly Joann Jacobs McFate

Beverly Joann Jacobs McFate, 84, of Slippery Rock passed away at 7:05 a.m. Saturday at Lowrie Place in Butler, following an extended illness.

She was born June 26, 1931, in New Castle, to William “Jake” Jacobs and Sarah Frances Lawrence Jacobs.

She graduated from New Castle High School in 1949. Beverly graduated from New Castle Business School, where she met Robert John McFate, who she married on July 17, 1955. She was passionate about her love of family and all animals. She helped rescue cats, dogs and horses, and enjoyed playing baseball with her grandsons. Her love of comedy and theater fueled her desire to provide dance and music lessons for her daughters, along with opportunities for higher education.

Beverly had worked as an orthodontist's assistant for Dr. David Hamilton of Hamilton and Patton in New Castle; she was a former church secretary at Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock and performed data entry for the Office of Personnel Management located in Boyers.

She is survived by two daughters, Robin J. Catt and her husband, Stephen R., of Butler and Terri L. McAndrew and her husband, Matthew C., of Erie, Pa.; her sister, Shirley Bell of Bessemer, Pa.; two grandsons, Ryan R. and Kelan P. McAndrew; and one great-granddaughter, Willow May McAndrew.

MCFATE — The family of Beverly Joann Jacobs McFate, who died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.A memorial service will be observed at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Pascoe, chaplain of Amedisys Hospice Care, presiding.To celebrate Beverly's life, contributions may be given to the Butler County Humane Society “in memory of Beverly McFate” located at 1015 Evans City Rd., Renfrew, PA 16053.
