Police: Man admitted to school field damage

A West Sunbury man is accused of vandalizing a high-school football field in Cherry Township in July causing more than $4,000 in damage.

Through the investigation, Benjamin Abbott, 18, who became a suspect, ultimately confessed to the crimes, according to police reports.

At 2:08 a.m. July 19, a side-by-side utility vehicle rammed two fences at the Moniteau High School football stadium at 1810 West Sunbury Road to gain access to the field.

The utility vehicle then performed multiple “doughnuts” that caused significant damage to the lawn and other areas of the school grounds.

Then, the vehicle proceeded to the high school principal's residence and damaged the lawn.

Abbott has been charged with institutional vandalism, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
