Butler's library back up, running

Butler Area Public Library on Monday reported its systems were all clear following a ransomware attack in July.

“We're back up and running, per se,” said Lori Hinderliter, the library's director. “There's always going to be a little fine-tuning.”

The Butler County Federated Library System was targeted by ransomware in July, causing problems with public computers and other functions at the system's 10 libraries.

Hinderliter said after many weeks of limited function and many stages of recuperation, all library services are restored. She said library staff is especially excited to again offer access to Wi-Fi, computers and printers.

“We actually called some of our regular patrons to let them know we are back up and running,” Hinderliter said. “It's nice to have that busyness that we expect.”

Hinderliter said while Butler is back to normal, many libraries are still recovering.

“The whole county system, not everyone is up,” she said. “All the libraries are at a different state in their recovery.”
