ADAMS TWP — Firefighters responded Tuesday night to two chimney fires that were about a mile from each other.

Chief Curt Huffman of the Callery Volunteer Fire Company said this morning the first blaze at 237 Union Church Road spread behind the chimney.

“They cut through block, where they were able to extinguish it,” Huffman said.

He said that fire was under control about an hour after crews answered the 7:38 p.m. call.

“The house is still livable,” Huffman said.

A damage estimate was unavailable.

About 20 firefighters responded to the first call. The Evans City and Adams Township volunteer fire departments assisted Callery.

Firefighters left the scene at 9:43 p.m.

While crews were battling the first fire, a second call came in at 8:52 p.m. for 118 Ramblewood Lane.

“It burned out before we got there,” Huffman said.

After ensuring any hot spots were soaked, crews cleaned the chimney of the residue that caught fire.

Huffman said the damage was minimal as the flames were contained inside the chimney.

The Cranberry Volunteer Fire Company assisted Callery at the second fire. About 10 firefighters responded to the scene.

Crews left at 9:41 p.m.
