SRU's Parsons earns All-American honors

Rock women's basketball beats Lock Haven

Slippery Rock sophomore cross country runner Jeremy Parsons placed 24th to earn All-America status at the NCAA Division II Men's Championship Saturday in Joplin, Mo.

Parsons covered the 6.2-mile course in 30 minutes, 14 seconds and passed 70 competitors over the final five miles.

He became just the fifth Rock runner to be named an All-American at the Division II level.

Junior guard Lexi Carpenter sank 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in The Rock's 58-49 win over Lock Haven on Sunday.

Audrey Stapleton (13 points) and Erica Aiello (12) also reached double figures in points for SRU (4-1, 2-1).

Despite a double-double from senior center Cornelius Brown (14 points, 11 rebounds), SRU dropped a 74-70 decision to visiting Lock Haven.

Jamal Gatali led The Rock (2-3, 1-2) with 19 points and Malcolm Richardson added 11 points.
